Edna Lynn's Story

After leaving Newark, I was stationed with my family at Adak Naval Air Station for eight long months. As a teenaged girl with a strict set of parents, I was not allowed to go or do anything alone that might take me to Bering Hill where the barracks were located. Swimming,no way! Gym forget it. Movies, Are you out of your freaking mind?! So, I went to work for the Navy Exchange Service. We left Adak four days before I was due to be married and moved to Anchorage, Alaska. Mark and I were finally married a few days after Christmas in 1973 and posted to Ft. Greeley, Alaska. We were together for nearly ten years and had one son, Michael Shane. We divorced in 1983. I met my second husband, Roger Phipps, in September '83 and married him in '84. Our first son, Charles Neal, was born in September that year and two &one-half years later, Ian Robert came along. In 1988, Roger adopted Shane as his own. We lost Roger to brain cancer in February of 1990. I raised the boys on my own (with a lot of help from THE MAN UPSTAIRS). They are all grown now, with lives of their own. Shane was recently medically discharged from the Army with a bunged-up knee. Charlie just returned from Afghanistan after a years' deployment. Ian graduated from the Art Institute of Cali...Expand for more
fornia with a degree in video game design. I have two grandchildren, Maddison and Ethan. Maddie is Shane's little girl. Ethan is Charlie and Liyah's boy. They are three days apart in age, four going on 24. They are the most beautiful kids in the world. Oh, wait! Is that the Grandma speaking? I am currently employed as a special education bus attendant. I really enjoy working with the students of all ages and abilities. I have made some good friends at work. I am a member of several non-profit organizations with varying philanthropic projects and issues. The Order of the Amaranth supports diabetes research with the Amaranth Diabetes Research Foundation, funding doctors research into finding a cure. The Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America helps the Shriners with the orthopedic and burn centers for Children, mostly funding the childrens' travel fund. The Red Hat Dragonflies of the Midnight Sun (Red Hat Society chapter) makes and sends care packages to our troops deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq. I am also involved in the Society for Creative Anachronism, which is an educational organization teaching about medieval and Renaissance life and skills. I live in Wasilla, Alaska and have for almost thirty years. I guess I am just a home town girl at heart.
